Car Shipping Companies - Brokers vs. Carriers

Purchasing cars online is becoming more and more popular, and often the buyer is out-of-state.  Nowadays, it is far easier and cheaper to hire a car shipping company to arrange the transport of your automobile directly to your driveway.

Brokers vs Carriers - How do you choose ?

Obviously a Broker is the middle man and usually the broker fee to arrange the car transport is about $100-$150.  You'll ask yourself , why should I pay the broker fee, if I can find a direct carrier...?

There are several things you should consider ...

You can be easily overwhelmed by hundreds of website(s) and prices out there.  When you are searching online for Car Shipping Companies, you'll find mainly Brokers.  In this industry, the car carrier companies are typically very small operations, with anywhere from 1 to 5 trucks, and they don't advertise online.

To make a long story short, the Carriers rely on Brokers to make sales so that they can schedule pick-ups and deliveries and fill their truck.  Carriers normally don't have customer support, marketing and sales channels.

Car Shipping Brokers, are the ones that are taking care of you, the Customer!  Brokers are legally Bonded as required by USDOT and FMCSA and their main job is to arrange a Licensed and Insured carrier to transport your vehicle.  The Broker knows, what paperwork to request from Carrier, where to check to see if all Licenses and Insurance is valid and most of the time Brokers keep a record of truckers performance.  The good Auto Transport Broker Companies are rated an A+ by the Better Business Bureau.  So, check them out thoroughly before you book your vehicle transport.

By trying to shop around the Broker route, and attempting to find a Carrier direct...you'll have to become very familiar with USDOT Licensing and Insurance requirements quickly.  Then, try to verify validity of these documents (which are sometimes falsified by faulty Carrier's) etc., and not to mention the burden to find a direct carrier, which is almost IMPOSSIBLE.

The best advice is to choose a reputable Car Shipping Broker, that has reviews on several websites online and let them take the worry out of your hands and arrange the car delivery.
